North Korea claims to have invented hangover-free alcohol

The North Koreans are back at it again, this time claiming to have produced an alcoholic drink without the next-day hangover.

Produced by the Taedonggang Foodstuff Factory, Koryo Liquor is made by combining Kaesong Koryo insam (a type of ginseng) and glutinous rice to form what the state propaganda newspaper called a ‘suave’ liquor that causes no hangover.

They also make mention that the drink which has an alcohol rating around 30%-40%, offers a sweet and savoury taste along with medicinal effects, due to mixture of the six-year old insam along with boiled and scorched glutinous rice (to help with the reduction of bitterness from the ginseng).

The product has gone on to win many awards in NK, just like any other propaganda item being boasted to the rest of the world.

“The liquor has already been registered as a national scientific and technological hit. Last year it was ranked top at the fifth national liquor exhibition, came first in the food sector of the 30th national scientific and technological festival and was awarded the December 15 Medal of Quality which is given to the best products in the country.”

Even though some types of ginseng do help with reducing the ill effects of hangovers, it’s yet to be seen if this magical drink can really stand up to its claim.
