Astro Gaming, makers of debatably the best gaming headsets on the market, have been acquired by computer accessories giant Logitech.
Logitech is known for producing a broad range of accessories, such as keyboards and headsets. Their products occupy both a high & low-end space and are marketed towards PC users. Astro Gaming has focused on console gamers and creates premium headsets, such as the A40 & A50 models. These can range anywhere from $200 to $300. Their headsets tend to be the product of choice for most eSports teams. They have recently expanded their product line to include a more price friendly option with the $60 A10 headset. For Logitech, this acquisition will allow them to expand outside of the PC realm that they mostly operate in and build a greater reputation in the console space.
Logitech purchased Astro Gaming from their parent company, Skullcandy, for $85 million and the deal is expected to happen in August. Vice President, Ujesh Desai, said the following about the acquisition:
“ASTRO is the leading player for premium console headsets and is the preferred headset for console eSports athletes. It’s a perfect complement to Logitech G’s focus on PC gaming and we couldn’t be more excited; we love the team, the brand and the products. Together, we want to make game play even more fun for gamers everywhere.”
The newly acquired brand will fit right in with Logitech’s high-end branch of accessories called Logitech G-series, which features mice, keyboards, headsets, and more marketed towards gamers. According to a blog post from Logitech, it appears Astro will maintain it’s branding and continue to be marketed towards the console gaming audience.
