Windows 10 gamers are in for some good news as Microsoft officially announced an enhanced “Game Mode” set to improve system video gaming performance.

Mike Ybarra, Head of Platform Engineering for Xbox, announced that Windows 10 will soon benefit from a major enhancement called “Game Mode” which is set to drastically improve gaming performance for both legacy Win32 and current Universal Windows Platform (UWP) titles.

Our vision is for Game Mode to optimize your Windows 10 PC for increased performance in gaming. This is a big update for Windows; we’re looking forward to Insiders getting their hands on this new feature for further testing, and we’ll have much more to share on what it is and how it works soon, so stayed tuned.

This mean that Steam titles SHOULD also benefit from the update.

For now, details are still sketchy as to how Game Mode works, but those who are part of the Windows Insiders program should see tidbits of what’s to come as early as this week.

Our best guess is that the system suspends unnecessary tasks to dedicate more performance towards whatever game is being played.
