SanDisk launches iPhone 6/6 Plus case with a built-in memory card

If you’re an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus user and need even more space beyond the maximum offer of 64GB, SanDisk has found an innovative solution to address this problem.

The SanDisk iXpand case is flash storage unit that plugs in via the lightning port, embedded into a hard plastic protective case. The inner portion of the case is made of soft rubber to help dampen any vibrations should the phone fall and hit a hard surface.

Available in 3 sizes (32GB, 64GB, and 128GB) and 4 different colors (blue, grey, red, and teal), the case is pretty much the most convenient option as it does not require additional cabling unlike other more traditional 3rd party storage expansion devices.

The price point is actually really good as well, starting at $60 for the 32GB edition. I can see this working well for someone who wants to save a few bucks by purchasing the 16GB iPhone 6 or 6 Plus model and then adding on the 128GB iXpand option.

Given that Apple doesn’t sell a 128GB model anymore, the 128GB flash drive case also comes in handy for those who store a lot of video and photo media.

The downside to all this is that the increased storage isn’t exactly plug and play like on most other devices. It requires that an app be installed to manage files being added to the flash drive. The app does however facilitate automatic photo and video backups though, so the transfer process isn’t exactly a nightmare.

You can also purchase a 1900mAh battery pack for an extra $40. It snaps on to the back of the case, but in my opinion, it can get pretty bulky.

You can pick up one of these via Amazon.
