Donald Trump slams Apple for not allowing FBI access to San Bernardino shooter’s phone

Everyone’s favourite politician, Donald Trump, has slammed Apple for refusing to create a backdoor to decrypt data stored on iPhones and other iDevices in the wake of the San Bernardino shooting in California.

Trump, the leading Republican candidate, sided with the government saying that Apple should allow the FBI to decrypt data from a recovered iPhone 5C belonging to Tashfeen Malik, one of the two terrorist responsible for the death of 14 people in San Bernardino, California.

On Wednesday morning’s episode of Fox and Friends, Trump said he agreed “100% with the courts” and said that Apple was “disgraceful” for rejecting the court order to let the FBI access the decrypted data stored on the mass-shooter’s phone.

While Apple has gladly complied to provide access to the raw data stored on the shooter’s iPhone, the FBI has been unable to make any sense of it and have since asked Apple to create a completely new OS with all its security/encryption features stripped out so that they can interpret what was stored on the device in question.

Even though Apple sympathizes with all parties affected by the incident, they feel that creating a new OS like this can severely compromise decades worth of security measures put in place to protect its customers phones. This issue was recently addressed in an open letter by Tim Cook posted on the company’s website.

Trump went on to argue that this particular case should warrant better assistance, and criticized Apple for not willing to bend the rules.

“But to think that Apple won’t allow us to get into her cell phone,” Trump continued, “who do they think they are? No, we have to open it up.”

Do you agree with the Donald? Or is he clueless to the implications of what may happen?
