Game of Thrones breaks an all time HBO record with its finale raking in 16.5 million viewers between airing and live-streaming in the same night.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Game of Thrones has been setting records all season long, surpassing even AMC’s The Walking Dead in popularity and rating. By the time an episode has aired, streamed and everyone watched it, the show has gathered 31 million viewers per episode.
How Game of Thrones Sky Rocketed
Game of Thrones has grown into one of the most popular television shows in the world and currently the most popular on HBO, surpassing The Sopranos.
The spike in viewers for the finale, “The Dragon and the Wolf,” most likely comes from this season’s lack of down time. Every episode is filled with all the action and suspense that was built up in previous seasons.
HBO’s prior record was previously broken only two weeks ago with 10.7 million viewers. And if the pattern above follows, the next and final season will surely break even more records.
Unfortunately, the last season is not expected to air until 2019. Even though Winter is finally here, we still have to wait.
