Microsoft Stops Selling Original Xbox One

If you head over to the online Microsoft Store right now you will be hard pressed to find a brand new OG Xbox One– the product has completely vanished from the UK store and the US store is only offering refurbished models.

Microsoft confirmed some time ago that it had stopped manufacturing this model, but this sudden vanishing act suggests that either stock is depleting or Microsoft are finally abandoning support altogether. It’s a sad day for fans of the OG’s large form factor, impressive ventilation and other quirky design features…

It’s possible that this is a marketing strategy – by removing as much access as possible to older versions of the Xbox One, Microsoft are making the S and upcoming X models that much more appealing as the only available platforms. We have seen this before with the Microsoft’s Surface products, with older models disappearing into the ether moments after a new version is revealed.

With mid-generation upgrades in the form of PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, the console market really does seem to be following the trend of other technology such as mobile phones, so it will be interesting to see just how much the market changes with the next few iterations. At any rate, it’s a console collectors nightmare!
