Shenmue III made an appearance at Gamescom with the release of its first real in-game trailer, aptly named ‘The 1st Teaser’. See the video below from Playstation’s official Youtube channel.

Certain media outlets, such as Eurogamer, have taken issue with the porcelain-like appearance of characters shown off in the footage, which have been described as lifeless and dated.  Whether or not this aesthetic is intentional or due to the small team’s technical limitations is up for debate. With the game being delayed until late 2018, it’s possible that there will be changes to the visuals we are seeing in this early teaser.

There is little argument however over how stunning the game’s environments look, which are arguably as important as the characters in the world of Shenmue with its heavy focus on exploration and Chinese culture.

At any rate, fans who have been waiting for decades should take the release of this trailer as further assurance that the game they have waited so long for is finally being made.
