Yu Suzuki’s upcoming Kickstarter success story, Shenmue III, has found a publisher in Deep Silver, who are most well-known for publishing games like Saints Row and Dead Island but have also brought Japanese titles to the west, such as the Yakuza franchise.
Ys Net (Yu’s company who hold the reigns on Shenmue III’s development) and Deep Silver each released press statements announcing the partnership today and Kickstarter backers were the first to know thanks to a progress update e-mail.
Shenmue III broke Kickstarter records back in 2015 when it met its initial target of $2 million in less than eight hours and went on to raise over $6 million by the end of its campaign, making it the highest-funded video game on the crowdfunding platform.
Fans attending Gamescom 2017 in Cologne can meet the legend Yu Suzuki at select times throughout the show.
Shenmue III is currently slated for release in the second half of 2018, which will be a staggering 17 years from the release of its predecessor Shenmue II, and possibly one of the longest waits for a continuation to a cliff-hanger ending in gaming history.
